GREATER LEDRA STREET

For the purposes of this project is defined as:

Greek Cypriot side:
Ledra Street, Onasagorou Street, connecting streets and paved Laiki Yitonia

Turkish Cypriot side:
Girne Caddesi and triangular area formed by Mecidiye Sokak, Arasta Sokak and Girne Caddesi

e-Ledra Project Overview

In the first part of the project, the Ledra shopkeepers were educated on the Internet and the possibilities of e-Commerce through education seminars. The project proceeded to conduct a representative survey at an indicative number of shops to determine the needs and expectations of the shopkeepers from the creation of the e-Ledra web site. Based on the findings of the survey shops best meeting the criteria to sell their products over the Internet were selected for the pilot e-Commerce implementation.

The web site developed for the project provides information for shops from both sides and the pilot e-Commerce web site as follows:

Information on Ledra Street

List of shops available

Information on the type of products offered by each shop

Ability to print a map showing the shops

Search facility so that a visitor can search for products

The pilot will also offer e-Commerce capabilities to a total of 6 shops. These shops will work together with the project team, to set-up Internet shops that will be selling selected products. The pilot duration will be for 6 months. During the Pilot, the Proof of Concept for the viability of an e-Ledra e-Commerce site will be researched and evaluated. The shopkeepers will then become owners of the site and responsible for its future sustainability.
